Drowning In The Blue
Hey, Hey baby
It's been a long, long time
Watching you go's so hard
Knowing you're not mine
I should forget you
I've all the reasons why
But I'm drowning in the blue of your eyes
Drowning in the blue of your eyes
Time after time you tell me
You don't want me anymore
Couldn't wait to pack your things
And walk out of our door
I should forget you
For all the times you've lied
But I'm drowning in the blue of your eyes
Drowning in the blue of your eyes
Caught like a worm on a twisted pin
Hooked, lined and sinkered you reel me in
So in love with you I've forgotten how to swim
I'm just drowning in the blue of your eyes
Drowning in the blue of your eyes
A price I cannot pay
A love I can't afford
But just one look from you
And I'm falling over-board
I should forget you
And all those nights I cried
But I'm drowning in the blue of your eyes
Drowning in the blue of your eyes
Throw out a life line I'm sinking fast
No friendly liner floating past
I hear the Sirens calling and I'm not tied to the mast
I'm just drowning in the blue of your eyes
Drowning in the blue of your eyes
Didn't feel you slip away
Never would have known
You'd be casting me adrift
For a new life on your own
You.... amaze me
The things you kept inside
But I'm drowning in the blue of your eyes
Drowning in the blue of your eyes
If I should say too little if I should say too much
If I should trip and stumble tongue tied to this cross
I'm clinging to the wreckage with a dying albatross
And I'm drowning in the blue of your eyes
Drowning in the blue of your eyes
Hey, Hey baby
It's been a long, long time
Watching you go's so hard
Knowing you're not mine
I should forget you
Admit that love can die
But I'm drowning in the blue
There's nothing I can do....
I'm just drowning in the blue of your eyes

Sheds
Not that long ago
They used to build ships here
From Pallion to Hendon
The yards lined the banks
Doxford’s, Laing’s,
Austin & Pickersgill’s
Depford, Monkwearmouth
North Sands
And here worked the men
Who built the great vessels
From keel to smokestack
Each a proud trade of their own
Riveters, shipwrights
Boiler makers and welders
Platers, crane drivers
And more
Above the toil, the noise and the turmoil
Rows of pigeon lofts stand
Birds flutter easily
And rest secure
Held gently in cupped, callused hands
Far away from the steam cranes’ loud clatter
Away from the heat and the foundry floor’s din
Here in this pigeon loft nothing else matters
Tenderly, soothing each soft feathered wing
Within these walls
These 10 old doors
Provide a safe haven of calm
And in these callused hands
Each bird understands
Held gently in work hardened palm
Below on the river
Cranes standing like sentries
Guard skeleton ribs
The iron ship’s bones
By his shed’s open door
Stands watching the skies
Waits for his birds
To fly home
Above the town
From this perch he looks down
This is the place he feels free
“Within these walls
These 10 old doors
Make a safe haven for me”

Dirty Old Town [revisited]
Welcome to this dirty old town
A reputation well renowned
Shattered glass lies all around
Even kindness wears a frown
Fighting talk in late night bars
Burning bins and burning cars
Views exchanged with iron bars
Battles lost I’ve got the scars
Round here trouble comes free
Nightmares are reality
No such thing as society
It’s just the way it’s meant to be
Trouble leads to my front door
Can’t stand up crawl on the floor
Don’t even ask what it’s all for
Dirty old town has its own law
Hope lies bleeding kicked in the head
One last drink then home to bed
Hunt in packs or wind up dead
They always said I’m easily led
Round here trouble comes free
Raised up on this debris
Don’t tread on my liberty
Outside now just you and me
And life is harder now
They say life is hard
Life is harder now
And life is so hard
Dirty old town what a disgrace
No hope, no chance, no saving grace
Dumped out of the human race
A sink estate - sunk without trace
Welcome to this dirty old town
Society‘s cruel hand-me-down
Shattered lives lie all around
Paradise is lost not found
Round here trouble comes free
Reality is life’s enemy
Don’t make waves don’t disagree
Blame it on authority
And life is harder now
Life is hard
And life is harder now
Life is so hard

Same Mistake

Same Mistake
Could have been so different - now it’s just like last time
How can I begin to explain?
Swore to myself when I promised quite clearly
‘I won’t make that mistake again’
Holding my tongue when I should have spoken
Only got myself to blame
I said it before, now I’ll say like the last time
‘I won’t make that mistake again’
Should have spoken up, showed my own feelings
No grounds to even complain
It’s been said before and like I said the last time
‘I won’t make that mistake again’
Lessons learned, intentions set clearly
But always turns out the same
Walking away, hear myself still repeating
‘I won’t make that mistake again’
Seen it all before, knew what was coming
Any excuse be just lame
Pick up the pieces and say like the last time
‘I won’t make that mistake again’
Could have been so different - now it’s just like last time
How can I begin to explain?
The promise I made to myself now lies broken
‘I won’t make that mistake again’

The Serpent And The Rod

Arduis Fidelis – The Serpent And The Rod
He lies alone
He lies alone
He never came to fight for king and country
He never came with a weapon to be drawn
He came to aid both foe and comrade
He came to mend what shells had torn
Did he hear the whistles blowing?
Did he hear the rattles crack?
His PH mask offered no protection
From the phosgene gas attack
He lies alone
He lies alone
Not for him the comfort of the aid post
No field ambulance tented dome
Not for him the casualty clearing station
Base hospital, transport home
He lies alone – the earth it slowly drags him down
He lies alone – swallowed into the ground
From this rain filled crater
Glass eyes from hooded head stare
Making a stand for his conscience
Sacrificed on a muddy alter of despair
He lies alone – Over the battlefield he trod
He lies alone – faithful to the serpent and the rod
He lies alone
He lies alone
He lies alone . . .

Windfalls

Windfalls – Season of Betrayal (2007) Margaret Schlesinger
I saw you with her in the orchard
Hands fluttering bodies not quite touching
Studiously avoiding that final moment when
Like moths hypnotised by lamplight
You would dance the dance of irresistible desire
Stooping to pick up windfalls
Together you harvested your spoils
Caressing their smooth sun-kissed skins
Fingers probing seeking out the flesh
That yields when exposed to the melting blitz
Of a white hot Indian summer
Next (2013):
Through the misted window pane
I watched you kiss, again, again
You took the fruit from the tree
Just the way you did from me
You were Adam
She was Eve
Eager, ready to receive
Bonded now by need and lust
Broken now, my love and trust
Heard her beg again! again!
Heard her beg again! again!
Smashed hands through the glass
Trailing blood through the grass
Walking now the path of pain
Heard her beg again, again!
Branch of jealousy, branch of thorn
Here my second sin was born
Swung the axe, ignored their pleading
Apple crushed, serpent lies bleeding
